Maths
How is Maths taught?
At Peases West Primary, we teach maths through a mastery approach, meaning that pupils of all ages acquire a deep, long-term, secure and adaptable understanding of the subject. The phrase ‘teaching for mastery’ describes the elements of classroom practice and school organisation that combine to give pupils the best chances for mastering maths. Achieving mastery means acquiring a solid enough understanding of the maths that’s been taught to enable pupils to move on to more advanced material. Please see our progression document below:
We also use NCETM and NRich materials to engage, motivate and inspire a love of maths throughout school. We are proud to be a NRich problem-solving school and enjoy supporting, inspiring and developing better problem-solvers with the aim of nurturing children to become confident mathematicians.
